"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was originally a musical stage play that ran around 1000 performances on Broadway starting in 1962. It was inspired by Plautus' farces that he wrote during his lifetime from 254-184 BC. That the same situations he described then still are funny today says a lot about human nature. The Broadway production starred Zero Mostel, and he recreates his role in the 1966 film version. There are many bizarre aspects revolving around both the creation of the play and the film -- I won't get into them here and now. I will simply say that: 1) This is one my favorite films, 2) It is definitely politically incorrect by today's standards, and 3) Zero Mostel, as in everything he did, is a force of nature the like of which we will never see again. The film is currently free (in the U.S. at least), on #YouTube Movies and TV. A comedy tonight! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgHFCcjJ0LQ
