I just *ironed a shirt* (for the first time in... years?) and put on fancier earrings. Shit's getting real.
Kia Ora, Auckland! Time to yell about satellites, for hopefully lots of you! #ProfSamLectureTour

@sundogplanets
It was a great talk!
Well done on the pacing...
Hopefully there'll be a good showing all the rest of the way down the country.
@sundogplanets I am so glad you are doing this lecture tour. I don't think people understand the gravity here.
I probably didn't search in the right place, but I have not seen any comprehensive advice about how to prepare for a catastrophic LEO event.
Australia...? 馃ズ
Well done you for getting it ironed! I don't know if I'd remember how to iron one now.
(Ironing is such a silly waste of our planet's dwindling resources 馃槗)
Hope the lecture went well.
And OF COURSE there are 20 more Starlinks in orbit today than there were when I gave this talk yesterday. FUCK. Now 9,634 in orbit.
@sundogplanets Okay, so what we do is launch a few satellites with navigation systems and nets. Where satellites in LEO are clustered too closely, we capture each, spin the satellite like a shot putter, and fling them in the direction of the sun. No metals in the atmosphere, and it would be fun calculating the correct trajectory to use to fling each one.
Or we could seize control of our governments, taking power back from the lunatic class of billionaires feasting on us all, and stop the madness.
Nah. The first one. It's trivial, by comparison.
I'm more than tired of Elon's act.
@sundogplanets 234 more already than the 9400 given in the New Scientist article your quoted in!
@sundogplanets Since you probably missed this great thinking
@sundogplanets isn't it so nice of them making sure you don't get bored and have to constantly update your slides
(/sarcasm, just in case it's not clear)
@sundogplanets I just heard about the UK's Dragonfire system for shooting unwanted crap out of the sky. Unfortunately it's unlikely to handle Starlink well.
@sundogplanets sorry about the shirt >.< but Hello & Welcome down here in the southern hemisphere 鈽猴笍
@sundogplanets Was it a shirt or a blouse?
@EricFielding Oh god I have no idea. I am bad at having nice things.
