Widely viewed as a film that couldn't be made today (and in fact, really couldn't be made in 1974 either, if not for the fact that Mel Brooks simply ignored the censorship demands of studio execs), "Blazing Saddles" is currently free (at least for the U.S.) on #YouTube Movies & TV. A comedy classic that has been accused of being utterly tasteless and immensely politically correct (even when it was first released, much more so now). It is tasteless. It is politically incorrect. It's also offensive to pretty much everyone. And it is also wonderful. But again, you couldn't make it today. Enjoy, if you dare.

@lauren I just showed this to our 13 year old. They thought it was hilarious. Also it was a great excuse for us to pause and chat about things along the way, causing some very serious discussion, and some very frivolous. Much more so than most other movies. If we aren't allowed, or given opportunity like this, to have those discussions, then the next generations would grow up even more uninformed and oblivious than we already are.

@tartley Fun Fact: The TV-safe version of this film replaced the bean scene farts with burping.

@lauren in the 80s, the campfire fart scene had our whole teenage friends group in fits off laughter and especially myself

@lauren In Brooks' autobiography, he mentions how he handles "notes" from the studio. He says, "You are right. That bit is out. I'll take care of it." Then he ignored them and left it in.

Partly this is due to his lawyer for his first movie including "final cut" in the contract. And he's had that ever since.

To be fair, he was _ruthless_ when editing. If a joke didn't get a laugh in test showings, it was out. Period.

Check utoob; reactors of all kinds _laugh_. They get it, just fine.
