@arstechnica love my multiple Shields - some of them are still the original 2015 version and getting updates! Still powerful enough to stream everything and play almost all of the formats.
Yes, there are some minor complaints, mostly with Google pushing more and more ads.
But, I was an early adopter of Google TV platform and had several devices from different manufacturers - they became outdated and stopped working just within a few short years of their life:

#Netflix: want our app to run on your device? Not unless you have a massive Netflix button on the remote. Want to continue to play 4K content after the device passes the 3-year-old mark? Tough luck.

@arstechnica Still using Nvidia Shield to this day, the last update was perhaps a few weeks ago. I had to replace the standard launcher with an 3rd party ad-free one, otherwise it’s still working great!
@arstechnica I had one and returned it. about 250 eur and the remote didn't even have numbers. Maybe that's alright for some but I want numbers on a TV remote.
Other Android boxes are 4-5 time cheaper and even come with a keyboard often.
Also that Bluetooth is not disableable causing bad sleep
@arstechnica the only bad thing about the 2019 pro version (pictured) comes from google enshittifying the gui of android-tv, but this box allows you to uninstall that intrusive shit
