We have designated WhatsApp as a Very Large Online Platform under the Digital Services Act.

As WhatsApp Channels reaches 45 million EU users, it must now meet higher safety and transparency standards, including risk assessment and content moderation.

These rules focus on keeping public broadcasts safe for all, while ensuring your private messages stay private.

For a digital Europe where safety and privacy coexist.

@EUCommission If you really want private communications to remain private, ditch chat controls and let us live normal lives. We don't want to be like China or Russia, do we?

EU, you are literally the ones salivating for Chat Control, "private" means nothing if there's a master key to decrypt my messages.

@EUCommission

The EU is on pace to break end to end encryption for all users this year. There is no going back once this is enacted. It will END online privacy and I am calling on everyone to speak out STRONGLY against government overreach.

Privacy will be under unprecedented attack in 2026 | Computer Weekly

The UK and Europe are ramping up opposition to encryption and stepping up surveillance of private communications. Here is what to expect this year.

@EUCommission and why not trying to promote an European chat app, based in Matrix, decentralised and private? For europeans and the rest of the free world. Without an enterprise behind making money with our data or maybe yes, but at least European enterprise.

That's a funny paragraph to read from the people who can't leave Chat Control alone and keep trying to get it to pass every year.

@EUCommission Content moderation on a chat application? That looks dangerously as chat control; no government has any reason whatsoever for looking inside the private chats that people have.

@EUCommission Content moderation? In private messages? Are you patently insane?

Edit: the moderation is apparently not for private messages, only for "public groups" (whatever the fuck those are).
