A new long-awaited (and long negotiated) trade deal between India & the EU looks to have been pushed over the finish line by the antics of the Tangerine Tyrant.

Its yet one more example of the acceleration of moves to de-centre the USA from many countries' (and blocks') strategic trade plans.

Its not so much these are new moves, but the finalisation of treaties & agreements represents a response that diverts trade away from the USA & will unlikely reverse.

@ChrisMayLA6 The US is now a much smaller part of the overall global economy and industrial capacity. People forget how shattered much of the world's industry was after WW2, except for the US, which had been untouched by bombs.

@ChrisMayLA6 The US is no longer the indispensable nation and the world could restructure it's trade flows and IP laws so as to isolate a bellicose US. Indeed, I consider it vital that they do so. Too many countries have made themselves far too dependent on the US and the regime is now willing to use that for naked coercion. Eliminating those dependencies is now critical to basic issues of sovereignty and national defense.

Indeed, but this an acceleration of a pattern that has been slowly developing for decades... the US share of global trade has been diminishing without any real reversal for half a century; its just hidden in the nominal numbers (which keep rising even as the proportion shifts away)

@ChrisMayLA6 That long decline, which I think a lot of Americans must feel in their bones, even while not being able to articulate it, is in large part the appeal of the MAGA "movement" and why it connects with so many. It lets them lay the blame for that decline on others, whether that is China, immigrants, godless liberals, elites, globalists - a barely concealed euphamism for Jews, LGBT. It is inarticulate raging with an inarticulate demagogue as its figurehead.

@ChrisMayLA6 There is no strategy within MAGA as to how to return America to greatness or even a definition of what made America great to begin with. It is just thrashing about and persecution at a grand scale, which only hastens the decline. There is no reinvestment in science, education, industry and infrastructure, grand social and prestige projects, etc.
