So while you are doing your password-manager magic (I hope)… Microsoft just hand the #bitlocker recovery over on a royal plate…
Maybe some extra devices can be seized by the FBI… only investigating Washington Post journalists can become a bit boring…
@wlaatje That "gave" in the first article is a bit of a stretch: Microsoft was legally required to hand over the encryption keys because of a request filed by the FBI in the context of a criminal investigation.
This can also only be done when a computer owner uploads the encryption key to Microsoft's servers. When an owner keeps the key on their own computer or a separate medium like a flash drive, Microsoft can't comply with the request. Therefore, don't save the key in Microsoft's cloud.
@ElBeeToots most people unfortunately don’t understand the concept of bitlocker, keys, back-up, local or online identities or cloud storage in combination with decryption keys. MS, such as every company worldwide should comply to legislations, the complaint is that they eneable this route…
