Friday the 13th may be unlucky for some, but for Charlie Clarke, it will forever be a special day.

On a cold, rainy December day in 2019, Clarke went out metal detecting. Just as he was about to call it a day, he heard a beep. Little did he know, he was about to stumble upon a truly unique find.

What he discovered was an astonishing Tudor pendant made of the purest gold. The glittering pendant bearing the emblems of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon.

It is unlike any object in the British Museum collection or elsewhere in the UK. The pendant offers a tantalising glimpse into the splendour of Henry VIII's early court and relationship with Katherine, making it a historical treasure.

The Museum is very grateful to Art Fund, including a contribution from the Rought Fund, for their recent support of the acquisition.
