So… talk to me about #Zotero … How do you use it? WHY do you use it versus other tools? What do you like most?

I realize I am maybe 15 or 20 years late to the Zotero party, but 3 things have me interested now:
- I’m taking on a project at work that involves a good amount of research
- I have some ideas for papers and maybe a book that would benefit from more structured organization
- I do a bit of #Wikipedia editing and have seen mentions of Zotero helping with citations

I use Mac / IOS.

@danyork I was introduced to Zotero by friends at 18F a few years ago. It's great for keeping lists of publications on various topics, collaboratively with others if you want. I love the many bibliography styles (even NIST!) they offer. There are some libraries of things like IETF RFCs too. Love it!

@jimfenton Thanks, Jim! Yes, I just installed it and added a link to an article that I wanted to add to a Wikipedia article. Then I did an export and chose the Wikipedia citation template... and it gave me exactly what I was looking for. So simple and easy!

With that one action, I've become a fan! (And that's not even the main thing I want to use if for!)

@danyork I use it to manage all the papers I've read or cited over the years... Can output bibliographies/cites in various formats. Not as useful as when I was doing the writing! But still a good way to throw a paper, article, etc. into and provide a copy and paste citation for authors' work I'm reviewing

@danyork I've always wondered how well it might work with systems like EndNote for shared bibliographies... But just haven't had the need (some of our colleagues use that)

@danyork Zotero and its browser plugin make literature research fun. Before, it was a pain and I really didn't like it. @zotero 's automatic PDF and metadata import, live collaborative annotation features and global search capabilities make it a great choice for individuals and teams.
