Allen was taken to court in the 1920s as the volunteer's uniform was seen as too similar to the Met's. Her service supported strike-breaking in the 1926 general strike.

In the 1930s she become a fan of Hitler and a speaker for the British Union of Fascists.

By 1940, the service had disbanded.

@rysiek It's not the only time an early 1900s story has a woman go from demanding equality to being a fascist.

There's a good fictional version in Old Baggage by Lissa Evans.

It's a good reminder that women in history – just as anyone else – are real, complex, multi-dimensional human beings, not 2d-cut-out stand-ins they still often get treated as.
