the thing about this show is that in addition to the wildly beautiful animation it also has a politics i find to be very explicit and unique. i think people describe star trek like this to some degree although dirty pair is also for example deeply anti-cop although unfortunately the first episode of this series somewhat undermined that
the scene where they get on the bus and the entire bus starts throwing eggs at the cops was incredible

in fact, boycotts harm the boycotter. microsoft is on the BDS list for supporting the israeli genocide and that's not a technicality. boycotts are not a simple matter of financial resources. they are a solidarity borne of desperation, aiming to hurt the oppressor enough to achieve positive change. when Black people boycott target are they privileged? is "defund the police" foolish or do police abuse their position to cause more harm than anyone could ever catch on tape?
reminds me of toni morrison's response to an interviewer about the rodney king riots emphasizing how patient everyone was. they waited for justice. a whole year and then the video comes out and that's when it happened. dirty pair (lovely angels) get into a run-down part of town and it was the cops shooting to kill and the other bus riders putting their bodies in the way to protect them. that's heroism, but not from the main characters
