Good article about the Internet Archive on Arstechnica this week. I knew the Open Library had to remove some books, but I did not know it was 500,000 titles that can no longer be borrowed online. That's a huge blow.

If I had access to thousands of books to scan and wanted to upload them somewhere, where would I put them now? Library Genesis?? z-lib.id?? (can you even upload your own books to those places?)

Ars Technica

The Internet Archive survived major copyright losses. What’s next?

“We survived, but it wiped out the library,” Internet Archive’s founder says.

@decryption Sounds a lot like what game console companies do, preventing old games from being preserved and runnable on increasing old hardware.

To be clear, I will still upload to the Internet Archive! But seeing as they have more trigger happy publisher eyes than ever on them, it’s probably a good idea for me to upload my scans somewhere else too.

Libgen and Anna's Archive have everything I've ever written, and I'm a nobody, so...

@shaknais Anna's Archive gets them from other shadow libraries, you can't upload to it directly. Libgen seems to be a closed club for uploading (I think), almost like a private torrent tracker so rats/narcs don't get too deeply involved

@decryption

Nah. You can upload to libgen easily enough.
It's the review process that is internal.

@shaknais I might have to start uploading there as well as the Internet Archive
