I think Mastodon's proposal for starter packs is a significant positive evolution of the way Bluesky rolled them out. I wound up on a bunch of packs there and it was…not a great thing for my specific brain and purpose.
I do hope the people in Masto's comments saying they must allow opt-out and removal will read the actual post, which features both blanket opt-out and individual removal.

I've been using Mastodon for a few years and I think I could also benefit from some "starter" packs.
@kissane could it be possible to block a pack and hence reduce clicks?

The thing I had most hoped would happen on the feature-design side is that fediverse systems and ATProto systems would learn from each other and I think this is a good example of that actually taking place.

One last thing! Starter packs are a *really* good way to help whole communities (of practice or interest) move from one network to another without losing their whole history of connection and conviviality, and I think that's been quite successful at Bsky—it helped a lot of communities make the jump off of Twitter.
Finding ways to move already-connected sets of great, busy people into better places is the dream, to me.
