In my self-defense class, we spend a lot of time learning how to fall if we’re pushed backwards. Tuck your chin down to your chest as far as you can, throw your arms out to your sides (not behind you), and smack the ground (palms down) as you fall. It’s still going to hurt, but you’re protecting the back of your head & spreading out the impact.
