'In a hyper-capitalist culture optimised for skimming & distraction, the ability to sit still with a novel is both subversive & truly gratifying'!
Resist the onslaught of social media & technological disruption: read a novel!
I can buy into that (although of course I'm already reading loads as followers of my 'This week I'm mainly reading...' posts will know).

English faculty at Texas A&M were told they can’t assign literature “with major plot lines that concern gay, lesbian or transgender identities” in core classes. They can assign books “with chapters that cover transgender identity, so long as they do not talk about the material or include it on assignments or exam questions.”
Repost to shame them if you find this policy outrageous.
