I often imagine what Australian politics might look like if we had a once-off candidate who ran on the basis of changing the current 2PP system.
= Run a party that exists only for the purpose of changing the current system. One term and step aside for a better future.
What changes do I mean?
- Replace 2PP with proportional representation
- Remove corporate donations
- Remove ability for ministers to sell themselves to corporations within 10 years of leaving parliament.
- New laws for truth in advertising to apply to political parties
- Restore media ownership laws to reduce cross-media ownership
- Restore working conditions to prevent "gig economy" contracts that undermine minimum wages.
- Make room for people to participate in politics without being a lawyer.
That's just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

These changes are pretty much already standard Greens policies.
The problem is not a suitable candidate, it鈥檚 that people don鈥檛 vote for these policies.

True that. Or more to the point, people are not getting very good media coverage of which parties offer something that matches their ideals.
Not sure if this is a chicken'n'egg situation. Media want click bait headlines, and the Greens are just too sensible.

@ewen very true, media do just want click bait. This may be why more Greens are turning to podcasts and social media to communicate what their plans are and what they鈥檙e doing, rather than relying on trad media.
