Lots of us on here believe in the Human Right of Free Speech. But what about the Human Right of Freedom to assemble in Safety.

I believe in Codes of Conduct and Robust Health Policies because I think that you cannot meaningfully have that Freedom of Speech with out Freedom of Assembly.

It's why mask mandates at conferences are important and making accessibility affordances available.

It's also why I'm thankful for @fluconf and everyone who contributes to it.

@fluconf

I do welcome #FOSS becomming more political.

But a part of that is becoming more inclusive.

We've a lot of work to do on ourselves in our communities on and offline.

So ask yourselves, who is missing from your events and in your project conversations?

Otherwise, you've picked a slightly different path in the same direction. Leaving many folks outside the conversation because it's not safe.

I look forward to more events explicitly having COCs and robust Health Policies.

@onepict @fluconf Free Software has always been political. Eric Raymond and his ilk created the OSI to remove the political aspect of it and make it more palatable for businesses.

@fluconf @fiend_unpleasant yes although even in Free Software there has been an aversion to community safety.

Focusing on political freedom is a very specific way. More the free speech side than the freedom of association side.

@onepict @fluconf I apologize I missed the original post. I assumed this was a broader discussion.

Although, RMS has been known to eat crap off his feet so he may not be the most "mask up for everyone's safety" kind of guy, idk.

I was one of the people who came for the free as in speech, and was stoked to find out the beer was free too, in a sense.

@fluconf @fiend_unpleasant No problem. Although in a way this is part of the broader discussion.

RMS did mask up, although that was because he was recovering from Cancer.

I think it speaks volumes of the community that the event he was at, his own community couldn't be arsed to mask up.

Yes you have the freedom to not mask. But when your founder is effectively immunocompromised it's a bit selfish to not mask up in solidarity.

To be clear, I'm not angry at you. Just commenting.
