While Aditya Chakrabortty may be right that much of the surge in Green support in England is due to the push factor of people loosing patience with the Labour Party, I think he's perhaps underplaying the importance (at the same moment) of the Green Party of England & Wales finding a leader whose pitch perfectly resonates with that audience... still, the key thing is both push & pull factors are currently accelerating the Greens into the centre of UK politics.

If Rachel Reeves cannot see that university student loans are becoming a totemic issue among graduates, then she may be heading for her own Nick-Clegg-moment when one decision prompts a haemorrhaging of the gradate vote (from Labour).

The problem is that Labour still thinks they can bank on there being no violable alternative on their left flank; which with Zack Polanski leading the GPEW, is no longer true.

People voted #Labour to get rid of Tories…and discovered they elected #Tory Lite.

There may be an assumption that Labour is an established party and therefore has the structure and apparatus to govern in a way that #Greens couldn’t…but again, Labour haven’t delivered anything.

All Labour have succeeded in doing since 2024 is turning their core, young to middle aged, metropolitan vote against them because they don’t care about rents or climate.

The Gorton & Denton by-election will be in a month's time as Labour has moved on the writ for it quickly....possibly to try to shut-down debates about Andy Burham's (now blocked) candidacy.

While, Reform seem to be the party Labour are focussing on, this may be the perfect chance for the Greens to capitalise on Zack Polanski's raised profile & recent pronouncements.
