@david_chisnall how about #alttext for emojis. I seriously have no idea what half of them mean, or more to the point what the person using them means. We invented alphabets and words for a reason.

I've found it hard seeing folks post about Open Source Awards partly from missing when I could attend due to #LongCovid
I am angry when I see posts with photos without #AltText posted by folks who represent me and folks like me who can't attend.
Who are our professional lobbyists for FOSS who can't be bothered to make your posts accessible for folks, it's no wonder the rest of the world doesn't.
Freedom and democracy needs to include everyone. #FOSS forgets.

Ich hoffe, dass alle die hier regelmäßig ranten wegen fehlendem AltText , auch im realen Leben immer so unterwegs sind, dass alle Barrieren abgebaut werden.
Für Sehbehinderte, Hörbehinderte, körperlich Behinderte, seelisch Behinderte, geistig Behinderte und alle die ich gerade vergessen habe.
Davon ab, ich selbst bin sehr für die AltTexte. Mich nervt es jedoch richtig, jeden verdammten Tag einen Rant darüber zu lesen.
Ja, mir gefällt auch nicht, wenn sich jemand nicht darauf einlässt sie zu screiben.
Aber bitte, wenn ich tiefer bei jedem Einzelnen (und bei mir selbst) schaue - findet sich immer etwas was ihr (und ich) an Barrierefreiheit übersehe.
Schaut wieviele diese Texte machen. Freut euch daran.
Hofft, das andere nachziehen.
Aber bitte nicht immer diese teilweise bösen Posts.

Wichtige Punkte. Ich glaube niemand ist perfekt und als nicht betroffener ist es leicht fehlende Zugänglichkeit zu übersehen.
Wenn man da selbst besser werden will, ist es meiner Meinung nach essentiell Kritik anzunehmen und damit konstruktiv umzugehen. Das fehlt mir bezüglich #AltText oft. Statt zuzugeben das man vielleicht nicht weiß wie man (guten) Alt-Text schreibt, wird defensiv begründet wieso das unnötig ist oder wieso es nicht die eigene Verantwortung ist.
Vorschlag für den Bessern Umgang:
Wenn ihr fehlende Alt-Text kritisiert, schreibt doch einen Vorschlag für den Alt-Text
Wenn ihr wegen fehlendem Alt Text kritisiert werdet, fragt nach eine Vorschlag. Aber ergänzt diese Vorschläge dann auch

TL;DR: Bitte verseht eure Bilder hier mit #AltText! Es ermöglicht Menschen mit Sehbehinderung die Teilhabe und bietet auch Sehenden Vorteile
(Und falls ihr User*innen auf fehlenden AltText hinweist, versuche ich immer einen Vorschlag in meinen Hinweispost einzubauen)
So, jetzt aber zum versprochenen Rant.
In der letzten Zeit gab es hier einige große Accounts die über AltText gejammert haben.
Sie (alles alte weiße Männer) hätten keine Zeit zu Alt-Test zu schreiben, die Hinweise seien nur Nervig oder das könne ja durch KI automatisiert werden.
Besonders arrogant fand ich die Aussage "Alt-Text Hinweise seien eine der zwei großen Barrieren für Mastodon Neulinge"!
Das sein reine Tugendprahlerei (virtue signaling) und vie der Hinweisenden seien Arschlöcher.
Außerdem hätte noch kein Mensch mit Sehbehinderung ihn wegen fehlendem Alt-Text angesprochen.
Das kann ich nur sagen #WTF
- Sich für andere Einsetzen ist keine Tugendprahlerei!
- Es kann nicht die alleinige Aufgabe der Betroffenen sein die Bildungsarbeit zu leisten. Du bist für dein Lernen verantwortlich.
- Die Antwort auf AITA ("Am I the Asshole?") ist sehr wahrscheinlich "Ja"
Warum ist es so schlimm #AltText zu schreiben? Und warum muss man so pissig auf hinweise reagieren?

Das ist nicht erstaunlich!!!!
Es ist in etwa wie, wenn du ein Haus baust das für Menschen mit Behinderung nicht oder nur schwer zugänglich ist. Und dich dann darüber wunderst dass noch nie ein Mensch mit Behinderung rein gekommen ist und sich beschwert hat 🤬
