my brother in christ the people building the #reticulum #rust port have "defence & tactical communications" as their primary use case... followed by drones and mining 😵💫 #fosdem2026
#reticulum workshop in #rotterdam has been announced 💗
> Low-profile and low-energy autonomous networking with Reticulum
>
> https://squ.at/r/c3kj
>
> TL;DR: the February workshop features a practical, theoretical and political introduction to Reticulum [...] After the introduction there will be break-out groups for building new autonomous nodes, experimenting with long-range links and (improving the) onboarding experience for new participants.
So much talking about #digitalSovereignty.
Sustainable sovereignty does not come from switching from a US techbro corporation to a closed European alternative. Proper #decentralization, like the fediverse, is a good step.
But real sovereignty comes from rethinking and questioning the very foundations of our IT infrastructure, with its central servers, IP addresses, or TCP/IP protocols.
#Reticulum is such an approach to think one step further, implementing uncentralizability and real resilience, where individuals stay in control of their identities by cryptographic proofs built into the protocol itself.
I appreciate that developers like Mark think deeply about such things. Read the philosophical essay “Zen of Reticulum“:

I just learned about Reticulum Network Stack.
Basically, it's a decentralized & encrypted network that can be on top of IP, Ethernet, wifi, LoRa, AX.25 or anything capable to transmit digital data.
Looks interesting.
Gonna test it on some VMs.

we just got this amazing #decentralized #reticulum #messenger application called #Columba.
If someone could port this to #pmos #linuxmobile we could communicate together without internet... this is freaking awesome...

Achievement unlocked: coordinating the setup of one mesh network ( #reticulum) via another ( #meshcore) 🙂
(If you're in the east of Austria, 869.432 MHz, BW 62.5 kHz, SF8, CR8), if you can see "Hochegg" on meshcore or meshtastic, you'll also see my rnode)

[[MV2K Reticulum Network]]
type = TCPClientInterface
interface_enabled = true
target_host = reticulum.mv2k.com
target_port = 4847
name = MV2K Reticulum Network
selected_interface_mode = 1
configured_bitrate = None

What's the vibe on #Reticulum, folks?
@noracodes I guess the question is compared to what?
What makes #Reticulum a little confusing is that it is a network stack which supports various applications, and runs on various interfaces, including radio, Internet networks, serial cables, etc.
That makes it harder to understand than Meshtastic, where it's very clear what you get: plain old text chat.
Reticulum can do more today, and way more in the future. I haven't used it yet, but I'm planning to...
What's the vibe on #Reticulum, folks?
I just discovered the idea of proof-of-work stamps to help curtail spam in #reticulum so Im in the "everything is a nail" phase of hyper-focus. To her point though, you *maybe* could require that for "DMs" but it would be totally unreasonable for all public posts.
#Meshcore:
https://github.com/ripplebiz/MeshCore/tree/main?tab=readme-ov-file#-hardware-compatibility
(Super simple to get started. Tries to solve flaws from #meshtastic.)
#Reticulum:
https://reticulum.network/hardware.html
(Super versatile and what I suspect to be the best tech stack. But rather complex and steep learning curve.)
In the end there should be an overlap of the most common devices.
