At my first attempt I went with both #docker and non-docker and ultimately gave up. I assume the issues I narrowed down this time were the same back then.

This time it is docker-based again.

I couldn’t wait to hear the second half of Programming By Stealth Tidbit 17 with Helma van der Linden teaching @bart about #Docker, so I published it today. Helma takes things up a notch and teaches how to reuse the Docker image. Both audio files are available at the post now, but of course, you should subscribe to PBS in your podcatcher of choice

This episode of #ProgrammingByStealth is a Tidbit written/taught by Helma van der Linden. @bart wanted to understand Docker better, and Helma has some great use cases for how to use it for developer setups, so it was a good opportunity for Bart to learn from Helma.

First notes about using #podman instead of #docker - yeah, I’m getting agile…

• command line looks about the same (so far) and can run a few (standalone) images.
• podman compose and podman-compose are two different things.
• podman compose does not seem to be able to use a docker-compose file. podman-compose can but requires the docker daemon to be running. Which makes using podman useless IMHO.
• passing container parameters on the CLI is way less convinient that using a YAML file as soon as you get more than a single expose port and volume.

I pulled out the section of my last chapter where I discussed how to run rv in a container and turned it into a small standalone post (mostly because it seems like the kind of thing people will google and there don't appear to be many good resources for it available yet).
