We now cross live to the office of the Minister for Ocean Destruction, after receiving news that his beloved seabed mining project application would be declined, despite changing the law so it would pass.

Bye bye would-be seabed miners! We won't miss you!

Fast track panel declines Taranaki seabed mining over risk to marine life

In a draft decision, the panel found there would be a credible risk of harm to marine life.

The equivalent of about 13,000 dairy cows’ effluent is pouring into the sea from Wellington’s waste water plant.

It’s disgusting.

But also, NZ has 6 MILLION dairy cows dumping untreated effluent on land and freshwater EVERY DAY and Luxon wants to increase that number.

Just in time for Wellington's fleeting "real summer" cranking up this weekend, all the south coast has become a raw sewage spill.

If only some govt with the gift of foresight could have passed a law to use the Crown's balance sheet and superb credit to help councils pay for upgraded and future-proof water assets.

In another timeline, this would be getting fixed and we wouldn't have a pack of racist blowhards selling us out to murderous nazis and private capital.

Are all the anti-cogovernance zealots happy yet? Because I am fucking livid. #NZPol

When PM Chris Luxon’s term comes to an end in November he will get the standard knighthood for having been PM.

I would like that nomination to be handled the same way his party has handled every single environmental issue:

* this is not a priority for the first year
* our country is too small for this
* we need to get back on track first
* we have a review next year and will address it then

@AngelaAntunovic @bananabob Yeah, I agree there. A few elections ago I think it was worth focusing on how the Greens are a serious party that can work with Labour and be trusted in government. But by now I think we’ve established that to everyone who'd consider voting for us. At this point the focus needs to be on why you'd vote Green over Labour.

However, I don't think we can assume that NZ progressive voters are as thoroughly disgusted right now with our Labour Party as UK voters are with theirs. So it wouldn't be as much “here's hope where you thought none was possible" but "you can hope for more than Labour would ever dare”.

@isaacfreeman @bananabob I agree with your first point. However I think people forget that Jacinda Ardern won by a landslide BECAUSE voters thought she was going to be transformational. Noone thinks Labour will be now. So if you're just trying to get a bigger share of Labour's vote then you aren't growing the pie.

@AngelaAntunovic @bananabob I personally think the right angle is something like “Yeah, Labour is OK. But if you're serious about getting us properly out of this mess and staying out, you want to vote Green”.

@isaacfreeman @bananabob I think the Greens need to be selling hope and transformation - that's what Polanski is doing so beautifully. It is not enough to be selling yourself as a sensible coalition partner. #nzpol

“New Zealanders who are struggling to put food on the table are not going to thank us for having a performative awards ceremony after we write billion-dollar cheques to other countries to meet a Paris target that James Shaw set.”

No, they certainly won’t, Nicky Noboats, so why don’t you invest it in New Zealand instead by building renewables, funding the transition to electric power, building new insulated homes or any other thing the previous government had a half-arsed try at and prove you’re better by doing better.

Fat chance of that though eh. #nzpol
