Ich bin da komplett raus aus der Zielgruppe, wenn ich sowas sehe. Heise ist sowieso in Quarantäne bei mir, aber solche Contents sorgen ganz sicher nicht dafür, das zu überdenken. Eine Bebilderung von Videocasts mit solchen Teasern erzeugt bei mir eine unendliche Fremdscham. Hätte ich Facebook jemals gehabt (oder MySpace, was weiß ich...), wäre mir eine solche Präsentation fast peinlicher, als Sauforgienfotos von mir mit nacktem Arsch in Richtung Kamera (womit ich sowieso nie hätte dienen können).

Tech speakers ... it should go without saying, but putting just a QR code on your slides without a URL is highly non-useful for people watching a video, particualrly on a desktop.

Devo urlare nel vuoto.
Mi propongo come aiuto tecnico/supporto informatico per una rivista nascente. Sistemo il sito, scelgo (non senza borbottare) wordpress per far sì che anche i meno tecnici possano scrivere articoli o creare pagine. Sto assente da una riunione organizzativa per impegni.
Un amico mi passa il verbale e mi fa "è uscita l'idea di creare un drive google dove tutti possano mettere gli articoli per semplificare il processo di proofreading".
Invece di usare i ruoli su wordpress e le e-mail incluse nel dominio comprato tocca andare a mettere tutto su google.

I'm not as full of hatred for Liquid Glass as some folks, but I haven't encountered anything about it that fills me with delight, and I don't like this transparent UI one bit. Also, oversaturated MacOS app icons are garishly awful and I don't like faux blurring. Guess it's time to dig into settings.

TL;DR: Bitte verseht eure Bilder hier mit #AltText! Es ermöglicht Menschen mit Sehbehinderung die Teilhabe und bietet auch Sehenden Vorteile

(Und falls ihr User*innen auf fehlenden AltText hinweist, versuche ich immer einen Vorschlag in meinen Hinweispost einzubauen)

So, jetzt aber zum versprochenen Rant.

In der letzten Zeit gab es hier einige große Accounts die über AltText gejammert haben.

Sie (alles alte weiße Männer) hätten keine Zeit zu Alt-Test zu schreiben, die Hinweise seien nur Nervig oder das könne ja durch KI automatisiert werden.

Besonders arrogant fand ich die Aussage "Alt-Text Hinweise seien eine der zwei großen Barrieren für Mastodon Neulinge"!

Das sein reine Tugendprahlerei (virtue signaling) und vie der Hinweisenden seien Arschlöcher.

Außerdem hätte noch kein Mensch mit Sehbehinderung ihn wegen fehlendem Alt-Text angesprochen.

Das kann ich nur sagen #WTF

1. Sich für andere Einsetzen ist keine Tugendprahlerei!
2. Es kann nicht die alleinige Aufgabe der Betroffenen sein die Bildungsarbeit zu leisten. Du bist für dein Lernen verantwortlich.
3. Die Antwort auf AITA ("Am I the Asshole?") ist sehr wahrscheinlich "Ja"

Warum ist es so schlimm #AltText zu schreiben? Und warum muss man so pissig auf hinweise reagieren?

I take dance classes a few times a week. I always wear a KF94 mask. I know it isn’t perfect, but those are the ones that fit my face best and, at least from my experience so far, they seem to sufficiently protect me against germs from people who are pre- or a-symptomatic. However: I have the rule that if somebody tells me that they are sick, I leave. Today was such a day. I arrived, talked to someone, and a few minutes into the conversation they volunteered that they are sick, so I got dressed and left again.

I know there’s worse things in the world, but I’m still annoyed. Especially because of the attitude that I get when I explain this. People tell me that I don’t have to apologise for my behaviour. I mean… I wasn’t planning to. So I just say nothing and leave, but it feels really shitty.

I know that people also censor any photos and videos taken at events. As in: if I’m in it, they don’t upload them, because I don’t look “gezellig” enough. I don’t mind that pics and vids of me aren’t shared publicly, but the reason pisses me off.

We're planning to join Google Summer of Code with PySAL again this year. Though so far, it is not going well. We see a massive increase in people “wanting to get in touch and make a small contribution" before the student application window opens. PRs generated by LLMs, responses to our questions generated by LLMs (ffs!), demands to point them to easy issues, flooded Discord, private emails (ffs 2x!!). I've never seen this before. It is a DDoS on our maintenance capacity and I hate it all. #rant

I hate whatever automation YouTube has for moderating their comment sections.

I'll occasionally post some really long reply, or I should say try to, and have it show up for me but not actually show up when I look at the same video while logged out. This happened earlier today. Someone had replied to one of my comments asking me something, and I answered them. You cannot see this, last time I checked, because YouTube's automod caught it for who even knows what reason.

So, there went like five to ten minutes of typing for nothing. It was about Linux, under a video about Linux, if you're wondering.

Why they apparently don't want any actual discussion to happen on their platform is beyond me.

#rant and a question

I don't understand why so many books use completely unhelpful headings on each page?

E.g. I'm just reading #bellhooks "the will to change" (which is a good book i can recommend)
On even pages the heading is the title, on our pages the heading is the author.
This is completely helpful and really bad #UX
I know which book I'm reading and usually also the author (and during reading both is actually mostly irrelevant).
I would rather have the section or chapter information on the heading.

Why are these headings so common in books? Is this a convention or has a reason i don't see?
