Weird idea. Use old-school Teletext (or Bildschirmtext) encoding to distribute local infos via a channel on #Meshcore or #Meshtastic. Wouldn't that be fun? But also useful? :)

I want a Meshtastic thing with a solar panel and a battery, that's weatherproof, and that requires minimal know-how for set-up, because although I am a nerd I am not an electronics/software nerd.

Can I buy something like that ready-made? I am in the UK but I am happy to buy from overseas. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Not sure I'll have enough time before #FOSDEM to set up a full #Meshtastic node, but I'll give it a go!

I have switched the repeater on my balcony in Munich from #meshtastic to #Meshcore and after 1 hour I already see nodes and repeaters in Zürich, Switzerland and many other places. Impressive. My repeater, a Heltec T114 with a decent antenna, named DE81827_01 is solar powered and has a 2200 mAh battery so it should JustWork™️ at all times 😊 Oh. And use the „EU/UK narrow“ radio settings as that is the popular default, but not the default after installing the firmware. Why? Dunno.

Scale 23x (SoCal Linux Expo) coming up in Pasadena from 3/5 to 3/8. Interestingly with a half day Meshtastic workshop.

I am buying my first LoRa device.

Following the insightful buying guide by LocalMesh Netherlands, I am thinking I will go for LYLYGO T-Echo Plus. I would like to buy it from the official website, where it costs ~54€.

Oh, should I bring my #Meshtastic device to #FOSDEM? That could bring some fun, wouldn't it?

Setup my first #Meshtastic device tonight. Super easy to get going. Hooked up a couple of antennas, flashed the firmware to the latest version and Shazam! we're in business. The only downside is I seem to be the only person around me that's tried it. It's usefulness is questionable at this point because of that.

#meshtastic question: for devices with no dedicated GPS (such as my ESP32 based Heltec v3), is it possible to use GPS data from a connected device, i.e. my iPhone running the Meshtastic client?
