We've been rewatching The Secret Life of Us on ABC iView; what a great show that was. Still holds up well, though we've been jokingly talking about creating a Bingo card for elements that tell you it's set in 2001 - Nokia phones, answering machines, cheques, etc.
#QuestionOfTheDay who is a character that ruined a work of fiction you were otherwise enjoying and why?
bonus points if you actually stopped watching/playing/reading etc because of this character, so not just like an annoying character you hate but you still kept going

#QuestionOfTheDay what's a piece of fiction that really blew your mind/impacted/changed your perspective/taught you an important value as a child/teen where that impact/perspective/lesson isn't particularly unique or groundbreaking but it was your first encounter with it and it's meaningful to you?
everybody has to have their first encounter with a concept, no matter how obvious/tropey/overplayed etc, at some point in their life. So don't be ashamed if your answer is like "this episode of a cartoon show taught me not to hate ugly people" or something. This is a safe space for sharing. At least I will try my best to keep it as one.

Emmy-winning actress Catherine O'Hara has died after a short illness at 71. O'Hara has a lengthy film and TV resumé including SCTV, Beetlejuice, Home Alone, A Mighty Wind and, of course, the great Schitt's Creek.

Finally got around to giving Starfleet Academy a crack. TBH I didn't expect to like it. Everything I'd seen about it made it seem goofy and lame, including the trailers. I assumed I'd probably give up 10-15min in, as I did with The Acolyte. But I actually really enjoyed the first episode, more than enough to watch a few more.

This show is like a serial comedy version of Black Mirror.

#QuestionOfTheDay a situation/fight/conflict in a work of fiction where the hero/protagonist won but, in your opinion, should have lost, this can be for whatever reason you think but explain your reason why you think they should have lost (it would be more dramatic, it would have been more interesting, it would have made more sense, it would have thematically made more sense, logically they should have lost except plot contrivance, it would have led to a more interesting story progression, etc).

I'm about 3 episodes into Frauds - new show on TVNZ+ starring Jodie Whittaker and Suranne Jones.
Have got to love a women-led heist plot. High end art heist with a related smaller heist/con per episode. Criminal team is nearly all women. Very well done interpersonal drama at the same time. Centering on the MC's friendship but the more people sign on for the heist the more the interpersonal landscape shifts. The leads manage some big emotional scenes with excellent talent while still being some stone cold badass women. The heist side of the plot is fun and dynamic and well interwoven with the rest.
