@cstross @unixorn @fcbsd until it's a bedrock of nuclear state economy and then the legitimacy becomes negotiable fast. I bet the state will double down on its insider bets and then hou boy... 2008 will be just a pleasant memory.

@cstross Of course it does.

That—what profits me is righteous—is one way to state the core mammonite axiom. And this is a mammonite theocracy.

Since an alternative formulation is "yours is only what you can defend", well.

It'd help if we stopped seeing the civil power as illegitimate because it doesn't make money. (Which of course isn't factual—there is no money without a sovereign—but in the mammonite axiom set, anything that can tax is irredeemable.)
