Running FreeBSD on a CM4 is not that straightforward as I was hoping for ... Hmm.

Kernel panic on boot but at least there are some hints about what I can try to fix it.

Nope, still panics. Any hints are welcome, I'm hitting a wall here ...

EDIT: I'll try https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/freebsd-on-rpi-cm4.82923/#post-610964 when I have time.

Ha, got it! There are two problems to be solved:

1. Limit the memory to 4 GiB as described in https://wiki.freebsd.org/arm/Raspberry%20Pi#Raspberry_Pi_4_with_4GB.2B-_RAM_Won.27t_Boot

2.https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=277605 which only shows on the CM4 with a connected ASMedia ASM1083 device.

So, after limiting the memory AND plugging the CM4 into a slot on my Turing Pi without the ASMedia ASM1083, it finally boots 馃檪

EDIT: And here's the blog post about it: https://feldspaten.org/2025/09/29/FreeBSD-on-CM4/

And a quick follow-up on my FreeBSD on a Raspberry Pi 4 CM: just use FreeBSD15. Works out of the box!
